Roles decide who can do what inside a household.
What this does
- Sets each member's level of control: Owner, Admin, Member, or Child.
- Keeps day-to-day use flexible while protecting bigger changes.
When to use this
- Inviting a partner (usually Member or Admin).
- Adding a teen who has their own account (Child).
- Handing over your household to a co-parent (Owner transfer).
How it works
| Role | Can do | |---|---| | Owner | Everything Admins can. Plus transfer ownership and make owner-only changes. | | Admin | Invite and remove members. Change roles. See and edit all items. | | Member | Create, view, and act on shared items. Accept assignments. Use shopping list. | | Child | More limited — primarily views items they're tagged in. |
To change a role, open Settings → Household, tap a member, and pick a new role. You'll be asked to confirm.
Important things to know
- There's only one Owner per household at a time.
- Removing a member removes their access immediately. Items they created stay.
- Pending invites can be revoked at any time before acceptance.
Common questions
- Can my child have view-only access? Yes — choose Child as the role.
- What if my partner needs to manage invites while I'm away? Make them an Admin.
- Can I demote myself? Owners need to transfer ownership to someone else first.
