Three timed reminders, plus a sensible answer for Feb 29.

What this does

  • Sends a "two days before" alert so you can grab a card.
  • Sends a "night before" alert so you can plan the morning.
  • Sends a "day of" alert so you don't forget the call.

When to use this

  • Each birthday you add. You set the three reminders independently.

How it works

  1. While adding or editing a birthday, scroll to Reminders.
  2. Toggle each of the three on or off:
  • Notify two days before — off by default.
  • Notify night before — on by default.
  • Notify day of — on by default.
  1. Pick the time of day for each.
  2. For each, choose which household members get notified.

Leap-day birthdays (Feb 29)

If you enter Feb 29, you'll see a small picker:

  • On Feb 28 — celebrate the day before in non-leap years.
  • On Mar 1 — celebrate the day after.
  • Skip leap years — only fire reminders in actual leap years.

Important things to know

  • Notifications must be on for reminders to deliver.
  • Reminders are independent — you can turn off "day of" but keep "night before".
  • Quiet hours apply to birthday reminders too — see Quiet Hours and Reminder Categories.

Common questions

  • Why three reminders? They support different planning windows — one for buying, one for prep, one for the act.
  • Can I add a custom time, like a week before? Not yet — the three options cover most cases.
